Pete Doherty sentenced to six months in prison
Pete Doherty has been sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to cocaine possession.

The Libertines singer ' who was arrested last March in connection with the drugs related death of heiress Robin Whitehead ' appeared at London's Snaresbrook Crown Court today (20.05.11) to plead guilty to having class-A drug on his person.

Doherty ' who has previously been jailed twice for drug offences ' will now spend six months behind bars.

In March 2009, Doherty was one of four people taken into custody after 27-year-old filmmaker Whitehead died from a suspected overdose in January 2009 at an East London flat.

Whitehead had been making a documentary on Doherty at the time and he previously admitted to visiting the property the day before and the day after she died but on the night of her death Doherty was at his home in Wiltshire.

The 'Can't Stand Me Now' singer has spoken out about Whitehead's death saying he was devastated by the loss of his 'best friend'.

The 32-year-old rocker wrote on his blog: "I need to think. I need to explain. I need you to know that these families are torturing themselves in the quest for sinister plots and answers that are not there.

"Robyn's father texted me that I am a 'coward and a runt' and that I am to blame. She talked constantly of her father Peter Whitehead. She worshipped him . She would be broken hearted if she knew that I was not even invited to the funeral."

"She was my best friend you deranged old silly. There is no cover up.'
